Puhi is described by early writers as being daughters of chiefs, exceptionally beautiful, courageous and of high rank. Very little knowledge and information is available around the role of Puhi in traditional and contemporary times. Of interest for this research is the value and belief system in which the role and function of Puhi exists, not only in traditional times but more importantly, in today’s world. This research sets out to identify and highlight the importance of kotiro in traditional and contemporary times. The aim of this research is to provide a clear understanding of Puhi by documenting and recording experiences, memories and early writing.
